    It was a quick read. I don't know if i learned anything but it was interesting to see how some graphic novels use story structure to tell the stories.

    Short Notes on Long Comics is an interesting book. It applies the Save the Cat screenwriting beat sheet to long-form comics. The goal of dissecting the stories is to see what works and how beginning writers can add structure to their work to make it better. These pithy breakdowns by Tim Stout are a nice dissection of comics like Batman: Year One, Maus, American Born Chinese, Hellboy: Seed of Destruction and more. In the analysis, he talks a lot about theme, one of the aspects frequently ignored Short Notes on Long Comics is an interesting book. It applies the Save the Cat screenwriting beat sheet to long-form comics. The goal of dissecting the stories is to see what works and how beginning writers can add structure to their work to make it better. These pithy breakdowns by Tim Stout are a nice dissection of comics like Batman: Year One, Maus, American Born Chinese, Hellboy: Seed of Destruction and more.
