Loved it as usual!! The art is gorgeous and the characters are amazing (Liv and Tiffany are my favorites so far!). I loved that it shows POVs of different characters so we really get to know each of them more. So far Nicole’s POV still hasn’t been featured but I feel like it’s coming soon after what Tiffany discovered about her! The plot isn’t too spectacular but I love the characters and getting to know them individually so I still think it’s worth reading. The friendship between the MCs is als Loved it as usual!! The friendship between the MCs is also really great, I love how supportive they are of each ther. And there’s so much representation here - the characters (both main characters and love interests) are mostly queer people of color!!

I love the different character perspectives and found especially Jay and Tiffany's issues very interesting. I'm not that into the love story of the main couple (to insta-lovey for my taste) but it's refreshingly not the main focus.

This series has my heart. If I was in any way sports inclined I'd be looking to sign up for a team immediately because the feels in this one were intense. I loved the mini movie marathon of sports movies with strong female bonds - all amazing movies and now my plan for the rest of the day is to go watch them all to try and replicate the emotions this gave me. Easily an all time favourite graphic novel series!

Artwork is as perfect as expected. It doesn't really have much of a plot but it makes up for it with funny, heartwarming and sweet friendships. I loved getting to learn more about each of the characters' backgrounds with more POVs than we got in volume 1. Full of POC and LGBT characters, it's just really wholesome, diverse and cosy.

This is the perfect slice of life series and the characters just warm my heart so much. I enjoyed the first volume a little more, but I still adore this series with my whole heart. Definitely looking forward to the next volume!

I’m reviewing the volumes instead of the individual issues because it’s annoying to log all 8 individual issues i read in one sitting.

In this volume, we get to know more the characters not only in court but their personal life as well.

I love the friendships within the team and how supportive they are of each other. Supportive, thoughtful, and so caring. I love these characters so, so much.

Series: Avant-Guards #2 Rating: 4 stars - really enjoyable I really enjoyed the issues included The Avant-Guards, Vol 2 because we got to see a lot more of the other players and their personal lives. Each one is very unique and I especially liked seeing Jay and their partner; they were both really sweet. I've only recently started reading graphic novels but I really like the art style of this one and how colorful and vivid the images are. Looking forward to more!

Still so much fun! It’s a book about a women basketball team in a college minor league but what’s particularly special is the care that is taken with representation - every *single* character, every detail - and yet the focus of the story is never on that - on Vol 1 we learn a character is trans because she uses the trans flag as a curtain but it’s never explicitly said and being trans in a women’s league is never an issue. Books that focus on challenges and experiences around race, sexuality, gender identity and religion are still needed. But it’s 2020 and more and more we are demanding books where the stories revolve around these characters on their own right, and not simply as the token minority of a group or because of it.

Both fun and funny, it's the second installment of the Avant-Guards, a college friendship group with basketball in common and their artistic lives that connect them-- some of them more romantically than others. It's enjoyable and moves along well for a series that will for sure continue as the struggle is always where the money will come from to be able to continue to play with other ragtag college basketball intramural groups while also falling in love and being supportive of one another.

While I didn't love this volume as much as the first time, it was still a really fun time. I love the amount of diversity in the cast and the representation. In this volume we got to see a wider variety of perspectives from the different characters which was also really enjoyable. Though, as a whole, this volume had less of a cohesive plot but you could see issues were being built for future issues. Really excited to see what happens next!

Sports comics aren't my usual genre, but they would be if they were all so diverse and queer! The writing in this is fantastic, and the pacing throughout this volume is really nice. Usdin does a great job of balancing the larger conflicts of the series with the smaller conflicts of the characters' day to day lives.

This is my new favorite! The art is fantastic, but it's the thoughtful, gracious character development that makes this series truly special. I can't believe how much emotional ground has been covered in only 8 issues. Highly recommend!
