This. Is. How. You. Draw. Action. Sequences. No one can convince me otherwise. The art in this series is perfection!

The last half of it was a bit lighter, but the first half was dark as f**k!! Lot of action, very grim but I say that in a good way, this is what Berserk is. We didn't get much in term of overall evolution in the main plot with this volume, but it was nonetheless very entertaining to read. And again, the quality of the illustrations with these deluxe edition is just insane!

It was fun to see the story progress past where it had ended when I only had access to the anime as a teenager!

Dark horse continues to be my favorite comic publishing company with these beautiful additions to some of my favorite properties. Between the gorgeous editions of the Hellboy books and Berserk no one else holds a candle. Excellent book and addition to the collection, looking forward to more.

Contains some of the most powerful chapters in the series.

Shit going down! The eclipse is here! Now the most gruesome, undead slaughter can begin. Another epic installment of the cult classic manga, in a gorgeous black leather hardback edition.

The final chapter of the Golden Arc storyline concludes! As the plot move forwards, now we see where we left off with a new storyline. I still feel good reading this 5th volume and still, it holds very well.

So we come full circle and begin at the beginning again. Kentaro Miura sensei has been building upon the formative years of Guts, The Black Swordsman after his introduction, in the early chapters, to his mission hunting the apostles. And, we finally learn his motivation which, honestly, is about as perfunctory as a revenge story can get. The rape of Casca chapters are hugely problematic (it’s a larger issue in seinen manga, generally, depicting victims as complicit). Getting Puck back into the story is a mixed blessing, while the fairy does lighten the mood, the humor is often bland, and there’s a tendency to break the fourth wall and the immersion. The Guts versus the stag beetle and mantis, however, are some of my favorite panels in this volume. More blood, tears, and Guts are to come. As usual, the reprinted deluxe package is worth all of your dog-walking money.
