Everytime a new volume of Batman Beyond shows up on Hoopla, I'm always surprised the series is still going. The stories are very basic and just not very interesting. In this volume, a woman steals the Batsuit becoming Batwoman while Terry runs around neoGotham with amnesia. The best part about this was Sean Chen's art. I've been a fan since his days at Valiant back in the 90's.

Batman Beyond: First Flight picks up where the previous volume left off, collecting the next six issues (Batman Beyond #37–42) of the 2016 on-going series and collects one story: "First Flight". "First Flight" is a six-issue storyline (Batman Beyond #37–42) has Terry McGinnis still missing and a mysterious woman who had snuck into the Batcave and stolen the Batman uniform to become Batwoman. "First Flight" is a six-issue storyline (Batman Beyond #37–42) has Terry McGinnis still missing and a mysterious woman who had snuck into the Batcave and stolen the Batman uniform to become Batwoman. While Bruce Wayne and Matt McGinnis tries to find out the identity of Batwoman and the missing Terry McGinnis, Batwoman takes on Batman's old foe – Derek Powers as Blight. The first appearance of Batwoman is a tough one as Blight is one of Neo-Gotham's most powerful foes. Dan Jurgens has penned the entire trade paperback. For the most part, it was written moderately well. Jurgens has created a new member of the Bat Family in Batwoman, but the identity was not much of a mystery in Elainna Grayson as she was my first and only guess when the Batsuit was stolen and it baffled me when Bruce Wayne and Matt McGinnis guessed so wrong. With the exception of one issue, Batman Beyond #39, which was penciled by Inaki Miranda, the rest of the trade paperback was penciled by Sean Chen. Since he was the main penciler, the artistic flow of the trade paperback flowed exceptionally well. For the most part, I quite enjoy his penciling style and Miranda penciling style meshed rather well. All in all, Batman Beyond: First Flight is a mediocre continuation to what would hopefully be a wonderful series.

Too many plot holes and moments that leave you wondering why they wrote it the way they did, it’s still good, but some of the writing is questionable.

The new, mysterious Batwoman... is terribly derivative of Jason Aaron’s run on “Thor.” Which is decidedly “brick” and absolutely “un-schwang”. That last sentence was just as stupid as this series.
